Why teams look for Harvest alternatives
Harvest built its reputation on doing one thing cleanly: track time, generate invoices, get paid, with Stripe, QuickBooks, Xero, and Deel integrations that make the last step genuinely painless. For a freelancer or a very small studio, that focus is a feature, not a limitation. Most alternative searches come from teams that grew past what that focus covers.
The first gap is project management itself. Harvest has no Kanban boards, no task dependencies, no Gantt views, and can't batch-assign time across a team working the same task. It's a timer with light project tracking attached, not a place to actually run the work. The second gap is profitability. Seeing whether a project or a client made money requires the $14/seat Enterprise plan, and even there, the cost rate behind that report is typed into each teammate's profile by hand, with no link to what they're actually paid.
How we ranked these alternatives
We compared each tool on published price, whether real project management (boards, tasks, dependencies) is included, which tier profitability reporting requires, and how cost rates get set. Pricing and feature claims come from each vendor's own site and Harvest's own Help Center articles on cost rates and the profitability report, checked September 2026. We build Harmny, so read that entry with that in mind; we've kept in that Harmny does no invoicing at all, which for a Harvest user switching specifically for invoicing simplicity is a real loss, not a rounding error.

The top 5 Harvest alternatives, reviewed
1. Harmny, best overall Harvest alternative
Best pickHarmny is a different kind of alternative than the rest of this list: no invoicing at all, which for a Harvest user switching specifically to keep invoicing simple is a real gap, say that plainly. What it does instead: project boards with time logged against tasks, and profitability where the cost rate per person can be derived from compensation data Harmny already holds for running reviews and career ladders, because Harmny is also the HR system running those reviews and ladders, salary divided by effective monthly hours, times an overhead multiplier you control, reviewed before it's applied. That's a different answer to the same problem Harvest's profitability report tries to solve with a manually typed rate on each teammate's profile.
Hourly, fixed-fee, and retainer projects are each judged on the basis that matches how they actually earn, and margin visibility has three tiers, full numbers for finance, a health signal for managers, hours and revenue for everyone else, so a small team's margin can't be worked backward into one person's pay. Free for up to 10 users, $8/user/month beyond that. Best fit: teams that want profitability tied to a real project board and to the same system running their people's growth, and that invoice through a separate tool already (QuickBooks, Xero, Stripe) rather than inside their PM software.

Start free →2. Paymo, best like-for-like upgrade
Paymo is the closest thing to Harvest with the gaps filled in: time tracking, invoicing, task boards, and a project profitability view, all in its Plus plan at around $15.90/user/month standard rate, no seat minimum, and a permanent free tier for a single user. The profitability report that Harvest reserves for its $14/seat Enterprise plan is just part of Plus here. If your only complaint about Harvest is "I want the same thing, but with boards and profitability included," this is the straightest swap on the list.
Not a Harmny product; the closest like-for-like upgrade from Harvest, time tracking, invoicing, task boards, and profitability all in one plan.
3. Teamwork.com, best if you want real PM board depth
Teamwork.com adds genuine task management, boards, dependencies, workload views, on top of time tracking, with a free plan for up to 5 users and paid plans from $9.99/user/month. Profitability tracking specifically requires its custom-quoted Optimize tier, so it isn't a cheaper path to that report than Harvest's Enterprise plan, just a broader PM tool.
Best fit: teams whose main complaint about Harvest is the missing task boards, not the profitability gate. Full writeup: Teamwork alternatives.
4. Productive, best if you're ready to go full PSA
Productive is a bigger jump from Harvest than Paymo or Teamwork.com: budgeting, resource planning, and reporting from its $10/user/month Essential tier, no free tier, cost rates still set by hand per employee. It's the right move if Harvest was always too light for what you actually needed, not if you liked Harvest's simplicity and just wanted one report added.

5. Scoro, most complete, priciest, 5-seat minimum
Scoro is the largest jump on this list: quoting, delivery, resourcing, and invoicing unified, from $17/user/month with a 5-user minimum on every plan up to $57/user/month for the full bundle. Worth it if you're building toward full PSA breadth; overkill if your complaint about Harvest was just "no boards" or "no profitability at my tier."

What switching actually costs at common team sizes
Monthly cost, entry paid-tier list pricing as of September 2026.
| Team size | Harvest (Teams) | Harmny | Paymo (Plus) | Teamwork.com |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 users | $45 | Free | $79.50 | Free |
| 10 users | $90 | Free | $159 | $99.90 |
| 25 users | $225 | $200 | $397.50 | $249.75 |
Harvest's row uses its Teams plan; profitability reporting specifically requires the $14/seat Enterprise plan, not shown above.
Before you switch: two things to check
Confirm your accounting integrations carry over. Harvest's Stripe, QuickBooks, Xero, and Deel integrations are a real strength. If you're moving to a tool without invoicing (Harmny) or a lighter integration set, plan how invoicing works after the switch before you cancel Harvest.
Export timesheets with rate history intact. Historical cost and billable rates attached to past time entries are what make old invoices reconcilable. Export before the subscription lapses, not after.
When to stay with Harvest
If your team's whole workflow is log time, generate invoice, get paid, and you don't need task boards or dependency tracking, Harvest still does that job about as cleanly as anything on the market, and its payment integrations are genuinely strong. The honest reasons to leave are needing real project management, or wanting profitability reporting without paying the Enterprise-tier premium for it.
